Oly
If I were to get into hand loading, roughly what would the initial set-up got of all the equipment cost? Can anyone recommend a good book from which to start?? Are these people (& this book) any good??? http://www.thegunshop.co.uk/reloaders-supp...ing_manuals.htm Cheers, Oly. Dunkield
The question would have to be why do want to do it? 1) As a hobby? 2) To save money? 3) The strive for perfection and accuracy? All three will different answers to your question. 1) If you are thinking of it as a hobby, then most things don't matter as you will be gaining satisfaction from doing it. 2) If it is to save money, then you need to shoot loads of ammo a month to recoup the setup costs, I knew that before I started and I am glad I never beleived the 20-30p/round stories. 3) Makes most sense, even though it will probably be the most frustrating, and don't forget factory ammo may be a little inconsistant, but the good stuff isn't that bad at all. That is a realistic view, even if sounds a little pessimistic I would add the best bet, if possible, is to be mentored rather than read books, although it can only help, BUT you can get bogged down in theory. Lets see what the others say..
kip270
Oly, Any of the books by Lee/Hornady etc are good. Take a look at these sites, very good reading: http://www.reloadersnest.com/index.asp http://www.shootingsoftware.com/reloadingtips.htm http://www.varmintal.com/arelo.htm Cost for all your equipment can start from £100 upwards, depends how far you want to go, BUT BE WARNED ONCE YOU START RELOADING IT BECOMES ADDICTIVE I was lucky to be given all my reloading gear, i only had to purchase the dies After purchasing your primers/powder/bullets that is you ready to go, just keep all your fired brass, that is the most expensive part. There are different methods, Full length resizing/neck sizing only, it is a minefield. But we are all willing to help, just ask. I have only been reloading since before christmas, and i love it, seeing your groups shrink to sub 1/2" at 100 yards, and then shooting something with a round you put together, Amazing
