craftycarper
Had a late trip out this afternoon for the first time since I zeroed the HMR well before Christmas. Having been plagued with rain, wind and then my operation a few weeks back today was dead calm and perfect for a bunny attack! After a quick mooch around the fields I crept through a hedgerow and once on the other side I noticed this large fox flitting around the perimeter of the field below me coming in my direction, then suddenly he disappeared through a hedge and out of sight. I side stepped back into the bushes and to find my squeaker and guess what? I'd left it in my other coat, a quick ramble through my bag and I found a squirrel/ rabbit caller, gave a few squeaks stepped back through the hedge and to my disbelief this fox bolted back through the scrub and towards me at speed, I set my sticks up, mounted the rifle and he was still heading towards me I'd say around 30 yards if that when I squeezed one off straight into his chest. Big dog fox, face full of mange.
Underdog
Done him a favour and that could be a wound of sorts! He looks in good nick generally, could be a glancing bullet! Well done. U.
craftycarper
You maybe right there UD, it was nice to get out, that was the only shot of the afternoon and first quarry taken with that rifle so was very happy. Darkness soon set in shortly after so the rabbits can wait a few more days, typical heavy rain due again tomorrow!
Underdog
I could be wrong but it is why I avoid head shots.
