Savhmr
Had the 223 (CZ 527 Varmint) rebarrelled before Christmas as there was some major pitting to the barrel resulting in some very wild groups after about 6 or 7 shots. Bought the rifle in good faith but the RFD refused to refund (long story) despite all reasonable attempts being made to sort the issue by me, but rather than drag it out through the courts, I re-barrelled it as it was a nice little rifle and the action was good. HPS Precision rifles did the work and a few months after leaving it in, it came back with a new 1/8 twist 26 inch long heavy Lothar Walther match barrel which I got for a pretty decent price in the end. Shot it at the range last month just to break the barrel in (clean one, shoot one etc...yawn) but today I decided to take it out and set it up for 200 yds on the land I shoot over. It's intended for fox control so I want it accurate between 100 and 200 yds. Used 53g reloads. Of course, I arrived at the site, minus my quad sticks which stupidly I'd left behind so had to set up on quite a steep left to right slope, firing into a raised bank (as a backstop), so used the rifle case rolled up as a makeshift bench rest and, well, got pretty muddy lying in the damp dirt! First target is 100 yds, with three groups (bottom 3 being first group, top being second but a group of 4 and middle 3 being the last group): That's a 2 inch square, so the middle group is about 1/2 inch I think, not too shabby! I calculated the lift needed for 200 yds, dialled it in, and the following was a 4 shot group at 200 yds. I did have a bit of a slip with the elbow on the RHS shot, as it was tricky keeping a solid rest on the damp slope as the bag and my elbow kept slowly sliding to the right! Even so, this was the result...excuse the amateur attempt at adding a text box (my editor only allows quote bubbles hence the arrows at the base of each text box!): Can't really complain at that, considering it was a less than ideal rest on a slippery slope! Not the best ammo either, so looks like the new barrel is a good 'un and look forward to a few outings after charlie.

Savhmr
Thanks Dougy I'll see whether I can better this at the range this weekend for a bit of fun. Really need to start playing with a chrony now to work out loads etc. Choice seems to be either a cheap optical or the more expensive MagnetoSpeed ones which are out of price range...still, at least they cant be shot
