Richie10
Hi, Anyone tried using Hi-Skor 800x to reload 10g steel carts? Thanks
TONY R
For steel it is going to be a little fast i think myself, used it in lead back in the day and it was always better in 2oz rather than the 2.25 oz loads. If its just a single tub or so you could try it, i mean Blue Dot is not ideal as a steel powder but it still works in some loads, 800x. if you can ger imr near you i would go for sr 4756 instead of 800x myself, be interesting to see how you get on with it, keep us postede. Continental Shooter
Got plenty data in 20ga and 12ga but never reloaded 10ga In principle it should be alright, it's a very accommodating powder which can go from 27-35 grams in 20ga and from and from 28 to 50 grams in 12ga (all lead shots) probalby best to have a look around US forums, they have plenty loads in steel shot with 800x for 12 & 20 but never had a look at 10 ga's Cheers
Richie10
Cheers All these questions would be solved if Alliant produced the Steel powder again.
Continental Shooter
but then would take the fun out of reloading i.e. we would stop experimenting and learning
TONY R
Cheers All these questions would be solved if Alliant produced the Steel powder again. It is anoying and its happening all the time, take BOFORS TK8 Just got some half decent loads sorted out with it and then its gone. CSB0 picked up the torch prety well from there in the ten, but then that got harder to get then A 381 etc went then A Steel became rare.. I do ok with Vitavouri but its not cheap. CSB0 was pretty good if you think about it in ten. Trying this ADI powder next see what thats like its cheap enough, just cant get very much of it at a time thats all, bbut should slow my A steel A 381 stock depleation. Continental Shooter
Did you meant Bosfor JK8? All the Bofors were great powders, I think i used my last batch of JK6 (from Bofors, that is) a decade ago ... then Eurenco took over the production and now it's all changed. Still called JK6 (in all its variable M, B, etc.) but not the same powder Edited April 22, 2016 by Continental Shooter
UK fowler
Hi, Anyone tried using Hi-Skor 800x to reload 10g steel carts? Thanks if you are looking for full payload data (1 1/2ozplus) you may be struggle with the non steel powder in general if you are happy with less payload then there will be more options powder wise .I spent some time putting a lighter duck load together using PSB2 when the ched 10g cases first came out turned out to be a great load not blisteringly quick for a 39gram payload but still clocked 1425fps on the test rig at the proof house and was a good load in the ched cases so the powders are out there but not the data the only load I can find for 800X is a ballistic products load and only uses 7/8oz of shot not much use in a 10g more of novelty load
