Iv got a SAK modorator and i was just wondering about some cleaning advice...i just tried to remove the mod and i accidently unscrewed the mod and it came apart, you could see the baffles inside, for a new mod i was surprised at what i saw, it was like taking the cover off something that had been covered for a while, quite abit of this dark grey dust type stuff. is that normal on a new mod? iv only fired about 25 rounds through it...

My ASE UTRA on my .17hmr is dirtier than than my Parker Hale on my .22rim, but i won't be cleaning either for a while yet.

Unless i see a change in accuracy there is no need to clean the mod. I have only cleaned my Parker Hale mod three times at the most in 6 years :good:

17hmr rounds are the worst rounds ever for fouling - i have heard somewhere if you have less than a 16" barrel the powder is still burning in the sound mod, so if you can help it sont buy a cheap 1 - ase is supposed to be the best!!!

my thought on this anyhow.

cherrs Paul :good:

Hummers are generally dirtier than LR's.... I don't clean my barrel often as I find it shoots better dirty but I do clean the mod. I was told by the guy who designed and made them to soak them overnight submersed in vinegar and then brush out with an old toothbrush, then wash out with warm soapy water and rinse.....bit of coppergrease on the threads and away to go.... :good:

I clean my SAKs fairly regularly, (.22 and .17HMR) I don't soak them in anything, but brush the expansion chambers with a 12 bore phosphor bronze brush; it fits just nicely. I brush everything else, oily rag and re-assemble. Be very careful not to ingest the lead dust!!
