anser2
I used to love the old Hevi-shot with all its miss shaped pellets and despite this the early 2 3\4 inch , 36 gr loads of no 4 killed geese as far away as I needed to shoot and far better than lead. Then the makers started to make perfect round pellets and reduced the load to a 3 inch 34gr load that was very inconsistant in killing. I think the patten was too thin in the 34 gr load. Still got a few and they will cleanly kill a 60 yard pink foot in 1\2 chokes , but I have too many easy shots that result in a clean miss. The old loads were brilliant, the new loads no where near as effective. Edited August 27, 2016 by anser2
TONY R
I used to love the old Hevi-shot with all its miss shaped pellets and despite the early 2 3\4 inch , 36 gr loads of no 4 killed geese as far away as I needed to shoot and far better than lead. The old loads were brilliant, the new loads no where near as effective. The eary tiny lumps of coal hevi shot was about 12.78 grams per cc, When they smoothed it up as you noticed and reduced the load to compensate for the fact the new smooth hevi shot was 11.68 grams per cc. This made it take up more volume cause more pressure so lyalvaly just dumped some shot weight. hevi shot did similar, the yanks recognised this like yanks tend to do, and kicked off at environ metals, and about two years latter they upped the density to where it is now just under 13 again so its working better now, it always worked but your not the first to coment on the early poor shaped shot. now to crown it all environ turn out he vi metal basicly duplexed steel and hevi, again this works ...all shots work.... bbut its a deception and environ did not make it cristal clear initialy what exactly was in hevi metal ammo, it upset a lot of the americans and some still have no time for environ metals or their products.
