Oly
years ago on a pistol range. I was using an auto with a new trainee policeman alongside me, he was using a single shot pistol - couldn't be easier keep it pointing down range all the time to; load, cock by pulling hammer back, aim, fire but he loaded then turned the gun sideways to cock but let go of the hammer sending a round past my head. Never trusted police with guns ever since. OK that's not funny!
Conygree
Its not really, as I was using an auto I was resting the gun between shots focused on my shooting so i didn't look at this chap thumbling next to me - but he did say sorry. It was an extended tin hut for a range so the round went through the wall next to my head - great but it learnt me never to trust anybody holding a gun. Just remembered another incident - a few years ago I was doing some woodland work on the shooting estate, when the guns drew up to form a line next to a wood - my son and I dropped back to watch, when one of the guns gave his 12g to his 10yrs old son - I told my son to stay in a ditch behind an oak with me and don't lookout untill you hear the whistle blow. Sure enough a low bird came out of the wood through the guns and sure enough the lad took a shoot - up the line of guns. Lucky knowbody got shot by him. Last winter beating with my son - I heard those dreaded words in an Eton tone, " I say old chap, how do you put the safety catch orff". we were on a bank to lift the birds in front of the of the guns, I told my son to turn his collar up and don't look back, my toes curled on every shot - but lucky for us nothing happened. Oly
Scary stuff PP. Think I would have wanted more than a "sorry" from the policeman!
