Sussex gardener
I have a bayonet for a brown Bess and have tried to research it's origins but have not had much success. I was hoping that one of the clever people here would have some ideas on the markings. I can read J. A and also HEIC.... OR HEIG.... Any help would be much appreciated

Sussex gardener
Thanks for that, it seems that a vast number of variations were made but it's pointing towards an artillery issue.

Sussex gardener
I'm not really sure that I will keep it, it's been tucked away for 10 years and it should probably go to a loving home
