flash
me and dad have been invited to go stalking in germany some time in the near future. if we are aloud to use our own rifles over there, would it be possible to transport them either on a plane, or in a car.dad has a german firearms license, jagshein, sorry about spelling, as well as a FAC. would there be any complications with taking it over on plane, channel tunnel, or ferry. cheers flash
Dunkield
It will fine on the plane as long as they know you are coming, did this last year out of Heathrow no problem at all (not Germany though) Best bet is to ring or write to the airline, as they each have their own rules. But. We were able to take rifles and /or shotguns as long as they were locked in cases - didn't HAVE to metal ABS was fine. Ammo had to go in our luggage and it was advised that the bolts should go seperately as well. I took 40 rounds and it was just in the cardboard boxes it came in, but some airlines like it locked in a small box. FAC is an absolute must, you have to produce it at every point of the journey. You probably will have to apply for a hunting licence for Germany, you host will know the answer to that one. It's always nice to use your own guns, but it is a hell of a lot easier to borrow one when you get there. I have no idea about boats and trains so I won't comment. fieldwanderer
You need an efp (european firearms permit) They're free, just write to your licensing dept and ask for one, they use one of the passport photos you sent them when you applied for / renewed your fac  I did it when I went to germany shooting international matches and was surprised at how easy it was - customs check your paperwork and gun, then your gunbox is sealed with tape to prove it's not been opened at any point when it shouldn't have been (was 6yrs ago now though) Couple of words of warning though; The germans wouldn't sell us guns / ammo on a british certificate so you either need to take it with you or make some sort of arrangement, Get the sturdiest gun box you can find / afford and mark it "fragile" in all applicable languages as I've heard no end of horror stories about broken stocks etc even when the rifle was in a box. AND, DON'T DO WHAT I DID; turned up at an international match only to find I'd left my bolt at home!!!! Ended up borrowing a german's rifle Have fun mate, don't forget some photos! Big Dog
Travelling is not to much of a problem just plan well in time. Ammo is sometimes a bigger problem. When I go to Scotland, from N.Ireland, if I carry ammo I have to go on the slow steel ferry. It is incase the ammo prematurely combusts and burns a hole down through the boat and sinks it You guy know what I mean we have all seen ammo do this on a weekly basis, ya right But that is true, fast alloy ferry = no ammo, with ammo the old steel boat. By the way do you have a Euro pass??? I think you will need that to. Ps, check if you need you FAC conditioned to take your guns out of the country. I do. MilDot
Just got back from germany hunting. I didnt take any guns with but the fellas that i went with did. Boat is fine as long as they know before hand. Must remove bolt. Ammo was in hand luggage in standard cardboard boxes! You must have a euro firearms licence (collect from your local issuing force) One thing that was mentioned is that France does not allow possession of any milatary calibred rifles! except if you have a special licence so if your taking a .223/5.56 or a 30-06 etc you may not be allowed to carry this through france! im not 100% on the latter part of this though.
