game_boy
Within our YFC club we're trying to get a wee clay shoot set up with no more than 2 traps. None of us have set one up before and have no idea of how many clays and cartridges to buy also a limited number actually have a gun. So i'd be most grateful if someone could give me an idea of how many clays to buy and what ratio of clays to catridges to buy!! So hopefully I can go to one place and get a whopping discount for buying it all in bulk. Any advice greatly appreaciated Cheers gb.
MC
For a start how many clays will depend on how many you want to shoot and how many people will be shooting. As for cartridges it depands on if you are ghoing to throw singles and have 2 shots if you miss with the first or throw pairs and have 1 shot at each. If there a 6 of you and you are going to shoot 50 each then you will need at least 300 clays plus some for setting up and allowing for breakages. Roughly the same for cartridges. As for buying in bulk I think the minimum for clays is a pallet load which is several thousand depending on the size, standard, midi or mini etc. I would try your local clay ground and put your negotiating head on. Good luck
game_boy
Cheers Martin, Got a price for standard clays @ £12 per 150 and 7 1/2 shot size carts @ £125 per 1000 or £65 per 500 which gives us a better idea of where to go. But still have to try a couple of other places first. I'd think we'd be doing the double through on the trap, at least we'll have some unshot ones left over for the next session! MC
GB, £12 a box for std clays is a lot of money, I haven't bought any lately but our local ground sell them for £8 a box. Also so is £125 per 1000 cartridges unless they are something special. If you just want some for practise with a few mates then you should be paying just under the £100 mark. (Express HV or Winchester AA's) I would do some shopping around
Emmsy
if your near a 'countrywide' store , clays are about £7 a box of
game_boy
Thats good info martin, cheers. I had no idea of what was going rate. The only other places I can really try are a tractor dealership in Stirling and a farm supplies shop without having to put in some big milage. Its not going to be anything too serious so any old cart will so, think the farm shop only stocks mirage! not alot of choice round here to be honest! Also what shot size should I be buying? cheers gb.
MC
Shot size shouold be 7.5's or 8's. It may be worth speaking to CCi or one of the other clay makers if you want a lot, if you only want a couple of boxes then it doesn't make it worthwhile travelling around. game_boy
Cheers, well think there might be around 12 of us possibly, not exact on numbers but i'd imagine we'd be getting maybe around 500-1000 clays something like that.
