Primers & Powder

Recommended Posts

Hodgdon H4895 and Federal primers for my .243.

Do you simly reload for one set up (i.e. bullet weight, velocity etc) or do you use these components for all your various set ups? E.g. a fox load, a deer load, a target load etc.

Cheers :good:

Oly

I did post a long series of links on one of the threads.

Try finding it and looking at the different powder makers sites and compare the listings then ask about any you feel may be of use.

You may be confined to those powders you can actually buy locally as some are now in short supply.

If you want a new list email me and and I will send one mry716@hotmail.com

I also have a good article on reloading if you want a copy email !

Availablily is actually more important than I ever thought possible.

Ask anyone who uses Alliant powder for their perfect load.

I have heard various versions of the story from "none in the UK for up to a year" to "never available again"

Luckily I went for Viht powder and CCI primers, they are normally availalbe somewhere, although I always have to go to a couple of shops to get them.

I would imagine the reloading market in the UK is so small it is hardly worth bothering about, and if the margins the shops claim to make are to be beleived I am amazed anyone even bothers to stock components (baring in mind you always want what they havn't got any way :good: )

Which is exactly the same as cartridges.

A lot of reloading components can't be posted, and can only be collected or shipped out via section 5(?) couriers.

Primers are just as important and useful to give a good load as powder choice.

One primer can offer a poor low performance load and another choice, even with all other components the same, can offer something verging on a max load.

You cannot just change primers Willy Nilly, they need as much consideration as powder choice and/or other components.

A 'hot' primer can equate with 2-4 grains of additional powder. TAKE CARE !
