DanBettin
Every time I see these posts I keep meaning to get up there one week. Can't this Sunday unfortunately but definitely will do week after or week after that. What is the format for the 80 bird shoot? Never been to a ground before were I haven't just gone out and shot whatever. Is there scoring etc.?
webber
The format is simple. We shoot fortnightly. Our shoot dates are detailed on our website. www.astleygunclub.co.uk click the events button. We are now using our Winter entrance which is through the farm yard. Follow Clay Shoot signs and drive dead slow through yard. You will see a moat on your right. The house was built in 1602, and was stayed in by Oliver Cromwell. Remember to bring SGC; boots or wellies; cap; shooting glasses; hearing protection. If shoot car park is full park on Car Boot car park adjacent. Book on in the office. You will need to produce your SGC. We sell an 80 bird shoot, but you can buy clays in lots of 25. You will be loaned a dongle which fits our counter system. We currently run 8 stand plus 2 stands for practice / coaching. R&ASC Coaches take priority on stands. We don't run competitions, but score cards for your records are available in the office. The dongle is set to count down from the 88 clays that will be set on it. You can shoot the stands in any order that you like, in any quantity that you wish. The stands can be shot solo thanks to our BRB remote control counter system. Ground Staff are on hand to assist if necessary. When you've finished hand dongle back in at the office and collect your £10 deposit which will have been taken at booking on. Our targets vary from easy to what is described as "challenging" by couple of GB shooters who use our ground for practice on a reasonably regular basis. Shoot on shoot, targets are changed by currently 3/8. This gives shooters a chance to master a stand before it gets changed. Hope this helps. Any questions, please just ask. webber Edited September 30, 2017 by webber
webber
Shooters attending this Sundays shoot should be advised that the entrance directly off the A580 for the quarry is blocked due to civil engineering works. Access to the shoot can be gained by turning at Astley traffic lights taking the sign for Higher Green. Drive through Astley Green; over the canal bridge and turn RIGHT at the roundabout. Ignore the road closed and diversion signs. If the barriers are closed open them, and beware of possible barriers t the other end of the road just before the Left turn for the clay shoot. You will drive through the farm. Please drive dead slow.
