Bazooka Joe
I'm on with a old Cooey 410 at the moment, it's worse for wear & needs the barrel & action either blued or browned. In the past I've had some excellent results with BC Gun Blue, but fancy a change & would like to give the Plum Brown a try. Any member went down this route.? Reading through BC tutorial it's a different process involving a heat, also preparation is the key as with the Blueing. That isn't a problem, I'm just looking for any pitfalls/results etc that anyone has encountered in the process.
Feltwad
Plum brown works ok on steel barrels but the barrels must decreased . Heat the barrels until they are hot enough so when you apply the browning in long strokes it will sizzle , allow to stand for 10 to 15 minutes then wash off with clean water , you may find that the first coat will be patchy , repeat the proses until the desired browning is obtained wash dry and apply a coat of oil Feltwad
Bazooka Joe
Thanks FW, I've read some where that the browning will take better to a rougher finish.? ie: the prepping results don't have to be as good as what's needed for the blueing.? Still on with the barrel, I had to touch up a few places with a smooth file to get rid of some pitting, so depending on what the finished results like I'll go from there.
