A huge sale of Russian and Soviet equipment will be taking place at an auction house in March and among the collectables will be a selection of Photosniper cameras.

As the name suggests, the camera looks like stylised rifles and it's fired by pulling a trigger that's mounted on the bottom of the device.

During the 1970s and 80s, the ever-resourceful Russians produced the most popular of all 'rifle cameras', the Photosniper. Based on their relatively basic Zenit cameras, the various Photosniper models found favour with many amateur photographers of the time, mainly due to the quality of the TAIR 300mm lenses and the relatively modest price. Even today, when you may get a little too much attention for taking photos with a gun-style camera, the Photosniper has a cult following with users and complete, fully working outfits can sometimes fetch a surprising price (particularly rare models such as the KMZ FS-2 "Military" Photosniper Set that's up for sale in the auction).

The KMZ FS-2 "Military" Photosniper Set, along with Russian stereo and panoramic models, will feature in art 1 of a huge sale of Russian and Soviet equipment at Astons Auctioneers on 29 March 2018.
