Dr W
Was wondering what the difference would be between a DTL shotgun and say a sporter. Thanks
LEFTY478
Trap guns are usually fixed choke, often 3/4 & full, as opposed to Sporters more open or changable multi choke. Trap gun often have the fatter beavertail forend and they typically have a higher combe which, means the point of impact is higher than the point of aim. Unlike Sporters where the poa & poi are more closely aligned. The trap gun will shoot above where you're aiming in order to catch a rising bird. hope this helps
Dr W
Cheers for the info. Found out from trying various guns for fit that I need a fairly high combe and was wondernig whether I could get away with this sort of gun as a general all round gun instead of a sporter. Thoughts? LEFTY478
It's a personal choice thing. I like my guns with multi-chokes, many people rough shoot and decoy with fixed choke guns, changable chokes have their place. A good gunsmith can bend the stock using hot lindseed oil, from the point just above the pistol grip to fit the gun to you, or get a gun with a adjustable combe/stock. Try a many different guns as you can before you buy. Look out for a gun with a montecarlo stock as these are very high and may be what you need. I got a couple guns with adj stock and if you're ever in the Bisley area, you're more than welcome to try them, just drop me a pm. Dr W
Cheers Lefty Did try an adjustable stock in a gun shop and it did feel much better than the ones on standard guns. Might take you up on that offer sometime, I'm moving down to Guildford/Godalming sometime towards the end of the year (hopefully) and intend to be visiting Bisley regularly, perhaps you can show me round sometime. Cheers Drw
