OldBill
Hi All, A bit of a query. I have just started using these rounds (because they were cheap) in 40 gr. Overall they seem okay. The odd stoppage but no misfires, however last night I had an 80/90 yard headshot on a bunny which was a through and through! Now bearing in mind these are supposed to be expanding is this the norm? I would have expected at that range for just one hole and scrambled brains, but both holes were similar in size, the exit being only just slightly bigger than the entry. Any ideas, or comments on the round in general?
Graham M
I have recently used some ammo that came in a dark box with red writing on it and had some daft name on it, but it is made by Dynamite-Nobel. I found it OK for plinking in my old Marlin U/L but not very accurate in the Sako. At 90yds the velocity would have dropped quite a lot and may not have had the oomph to expand the head. G.M. OldBill
Thanks G, that seems reasonable as I can watch the arc of the round at that distance! I was just making sure that it wasn't this particular round as this has never happend to me when using winnies.
Soulboy
Even subs will be doing 850 - 900 fps/80 ft lbs at 90 yards, the fact is that although it is called expanding,it rarely does when hitting small game - the velocity is just not enough - even at 1000 fps/100 ft lbs Hyper velocity .22 - circa 1650 fps will,as will others calibres e.g. HMR at 2500 fps How many have found a .22lr bullet head in a rabbit?. I find that whether its Eley subs,Winchester subs or RWS Geco round nose, hit them right and they go over.
