poppythedog
My broadband connection used to be almost 100% reliable, having now installed and setup a wireless router and the thingamy that goes inside the desktop so swmbo can use her laptop at home, I find I regularly cannot connect to websites and my spam filter that auto downloads incoming emails has a long list of failed attempt messages whenever I look at it. Is this a feature of wireless BB as it a pain in the A as I spend most of my day on t' interweb???
Piebob
No, this isn't a feature of wireless. You need to be more specific about your problem for any sort of diagnosis. Questions like- Is it the desktop that doesn't work, or the laptop, or both? How are the desktop & laptop connected i.e. what "thingamy" did you install - a wireless LAN card or wired LAN card? Or something else? Is it the router that is misconfigured and dropping the connection? Where is you router connected? Do you have filters installed at all phone points? What model of router? What broadband provider? You said it was previously almost 100% reliable - what were the problems you were having when it "worked"?
poppythedog
Sorry I was a bit vague! the problem is with my desktop, the laptop appears to be fine but it is only used one or two days a week, the desktop is on and used all day Mon-Fri. The thingamy in the pc is one of these http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/117113 a Belkin Adapter/Desktop Network PCI Card RJ45. I don't know if the router is misconfigured, I just seem to get the "internet explorer cannot open the page" message an awful lot since installing it. The router is connected by cable to a filter on the BT socket and by cable to the desktop. There is only one BT socket on the line. The router is one of these http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/52244 NETGEAR DG834G Integrated ADSL Modem 54Mbps 802.11g Wireless Firewall Router The broadband is through Orange, The only problems I used to have before installing the wireless was once in a blue moon I would get the IE cannot open ect message but it was very rare. Thanks for your help, I am utterly useless with 'pooters but I make my living via one so it has to work!
poppythedog
I forgot to add that when IE won't work I open outlook express and press send/receive, this seems to "bump start" IE and it then works ok for a while???
