Conor O'Gorman
Following an article about Channel 4 'Location, Location, Location' host Phil Spencer going deer stalking, BASC has written to the editor of the Metro. In addition, we have offered the journalist a chance to try some venison explaining that the meat should be seen as a national asset, not a crime. It is our continued aim to see a fair portrayal of shooting in the press. Metro article: https://metro.co.uk/2020/07/21/phil-spencer-comes-fire-old-photo-resurfaces-posing-dead-deer-rifle-13017679/ BASC letter: Dear Editor How sad to see Phil Spencer publicly vilified for harvesting a wild deer. Perhaps the journalist or the extremist campaign group who dragged the nine-year-old photograph used as clickbait are not aware of the desperate need to manage the national deer herd. Woodland, agricultural crops, road safety and the health of said deer would all suffer if the UK's growing deer population was left unchecked. Venison, the meat from deer, is healthy, delicious and sustainable. Shaming somebody who has taken the responsibility to harvest their own food in an ethical manner while mitigating negative impacts on our countryside, demonstrates a clear lack of understanding of an essential responsibility. miki
I know it's a difficult concept to grasp but METRO were reporting on something another group had done. I read that article and think, what a bunch of uneducated zoomers the Green Paw Project are. "We are The Animals Voice", ***. I didn't see it as METRO either supporting or condemning Phils action to be honest. I would agree that this article does (as you indicated) show that The Green Paw Project 'demonstrates a clear lack of understanding' - well done the METRO for pointing that out. I see that several of the comments agree too. If you're keen to give away some venison perhaps you could send me a pack of sausages or two ?
