Lab with infection

Had to take my lab to the vets today as she had a weeping sore on her neck. Took her out last night and when I came down at half six this morning she seemed under the weather but still keen for her morning constitutional. Told the wife to keep an eye on her as she was licking her fore paw and rubbuing it against her cheek. I had a damn good look but could see nothing. Came back in a couple of hours later and she was sodden on her cheek where she had licked then rubbed. Straight up the vets where a load of puss was squeezed out and a wash applied, plus a cortizone and anti biotic jab.

Vet informed me it was a common thing for labs to suffer from minor scratches that at this time of year develope rapidly into infections. Funny as she is four and has never had this before.

Anyone else had this problem ?

Main thing is she is on the mend and the vet is nearer to an upgrade on her M6 convertible.

Sometimes they infect themselves when licking and scratching an irritation. Low grade tinned dogfood seems to breed bacteria quickly. And labs have an unhealthy taste for anything that honks.

Perhaps feed a dry food like welbeloveds might help.

Don't know if its the same or not digger but my lab had a marble size swelling just inside his ear on the lobe area.

I noticed it first on Friday afternoon and when I have been able to see him over the weekend I have been checking it.

It is now the length of his ear and is full of liquid but only seems to give him grief when he has a ear flapping session and then he will yelp.

He is in the Vets first thing tomorrow as I really don't want to be draining it myself according to the woman, bless her

She is now firmly on the mend after a weekend of constant washing of the infected area.

Quist, she will eat anything bar tinned dog food but thanks for the tip :good:

LB, vet informed me the glands in the ears and around the whiskers and tear ducts are well known for becoming infected ?

Not only do we have hips, eyes and elbows to worry about but now glands too. Mine is going under a pedigree springer next month, keep an eye on the for sale section

Never heard of that one Digger.

My lab has a yeast infection in his left ear and this has caused him to flap them excessively which resulted in buster bloodvessel dropping in and staying for the weekend to the tune of £ 56.26

Lucky it weren't both ears :good:

New vets assistant is nice and will be giving my lurcher his MOT on Wednesday :good:

I shall be giving the for sale section a wide berth digger as there is a litter around my area too more than worth a look.
