invector
If it's an oiled stock, a small rub with refined linseed oil might do the trick.

mry716
Not if you don't leave it soaking in a bucketful overnight. Just rub a bit on with a cotton wool bud. It works on most water marks even on a mahogany french polished table marked with teacup rings.

ferrodo
Water marks in stocks is usually caused by the oil finishing being too thick and not dried through. It may feel dry to the touch but isn't in reality. The cure is to remove the excess finish by rubbing the stock down gently using VERY fine steel wool with a touch of rubbing oil. Napier do a really good boxed kit. Then using a mere hint of gun stock finish........just a smige,a smell,a tad........on a cloth patch recoat the stock leaving for an hour to dry. Then using your bare fingers, rub the stock until you feel things getting warm. The oil doesn't so much as dry but is absorbed in time, into the wood and the warmth from the friction of your fingers helps this process. DON'T over coat but use hardly any oil at all, this is the secret. Build up a deep sheen over months rather then minutes. All thats left is to buff things up with a soft cloth. Napier gun stock finish does it for me. F
