Ballie
I have got some money burning a hole in my pocket and I want to buy a new .243 (this week if possible as I already have the slot on my FAC) I can't deicide between a Sako 75 Varmint or a Remington Varmint. The models I have to choose from are. Sako varmint Laminated Stainless (fluted) Sako varmint Remington SPS varmint Remington VLS (varmint Laminate stock) not stainless I know the Sako is double the price of the Remington but cost is not part of my dilemma, I only want the rifle as a gape filler until my full custom gun is built which will take between 6 months to one year I will then be selling it on. The rifle will be used almost exclusively for foxes which are shoot from the top of my Nissan Navara on a custom made shooting platform, it will also shoot the odd deer. A nice heavy gun for long range foxes is what I am after. Both of these guns fall into this category but which one is more accurate the Sako or the Remington? Can anyone give hands on experience of either of these rifles?

tulkyuk
I Shoot a Sako 243 Varmit and think it's supurb, has a lovley trigger pull and will put a 5 round group of 75grn Remington accutips ( ideal fox round) in 1 hole at 100yrds, it is the one Magman was using last night. it's a shame your not closer or you could of had a go with mine and then judge for yourself. Ballie
Right guys, it would seem like SAKO it is, for my next question is the Sako 75 varmint Laminated Stainless (fluted) still available new? Who are the importers for Sako? and does anyone know of a gun shop that has one in stock?
v-max
Hello i am a remmy man but sako is the better of the 2 as it is also a good rifle to work on ie semi-custom job but you dont need that.keep us posted on your custom rifle or tell us what you have ordered.Magman the 22.250 & 243 are much the same rifle in a way or a 243 homeloaded with ligh bullet's will perform semi 22.250 but up to you.I was in the same boat a few year's ago but changed the 243 for a 25/06 so i have a big putt-putt a little putt-putt & my .22rf

If you look around you should be able to get a new one somewhere ( but they have replaced it with the 85 now, so are getting rare) - importers are GMK i think and as for a gun shop, i guess the interweb would be a good place to start (guntrader.co.uk). Ballie
It would seem that 75 varmint Laminated Stainless are no longer available from GMK but they say the 85 is due in very soon (2 - 6 weeks) my local rfd will do me an 85 varmint Laminated Stainless for £1050 or I can buy the older Sako 75 varmint blued for £925 now. Browning
For an interim rifle that you will be moving on in 6 months why pay over £1000 for a Sako when you can have the Rem SPS varmint for £500? I have one in .243 and it is every bit as accurate as my Tikka was.
Ballie
Browning, do you shoot 70g in your sps and if so what group sizes are you getting? at say 100, 200. 300 yards
Browning
Ballie, I shoot 75gn VMax, 46gn H414, Fed 210 primers out of Lapua brass. I'm still playing around with loads as I've only had the rifle about a month. Yesterday was a fairly quiet day and I was averaging groups of 0.6" at 100 yards whilst shooting off a bipod from the truck bonnet. I haven't had it out to 200 or 300 yards on paper yet. Ballie
I have found a new Sako 75 varmint Laminated Stainless (fluted) for £1090 or I can wait and get the same in the 85 when its out in about 4 - 6 weeks. What do people think about the new Sako 85 is it as good as the 75 ?

Eagleman
Ballie, take a look at this on the BBs site mate http://www.airgunbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=220934 Now that stock is WHY I would go for that gun (if I had the slot) and is also the reason why Ballie probably wouldn't! Ballie
Eagleman I think you are getting to know me to well and that's worrying! it is indeed a lovely piece of wood but I have absolutely no interest in looks or wood. what counts for me is accuracy and it helps if the thing looks like it means business not pretty. I can see the point in having nice wood on a shotgun, but only because I have 2 of them, and like to stand there looking pretty on shoot days!!! What's happened to this days barble fishing you promised me? Also get your back side up here squirrels have gone made they are everywhere.
