WeihrauchPower
Soft pointed rounds for lever actions! Anyone using them! I see Cabelas are selling scopes with reticule range marks for them! Considering this round and scope combo for the new Marlin.

I don't suppose you know of any decent ones? I'm sure there are hundreds full of rednecks!
mry716
The ammo seems fine but as yet we are unable to get the bullets to reload our own in the UK and it is unlikely to be available until 2008 at the earliest. In fact I am surprised that you can even source ammo in OZ as when I checked with Tim Hannam they hadn't any and I was told the UK was not expecting any in the forseeable future saying it was the same worldwide except for of course the 'Home' market. If you want to email me on mry716@hotmail.com I can send you an article on the new 308 Marlin cartridge. I had a Marlin 30-30 and changed it for a new WW but the Marlin was a nicer rifle to use - both 16" barrel for dense woodland use. Mostly used shotgun style without a scope - occasionally 'rom the hip' as the trees were so dense you were unable to stand and had to shoot below the bottom branches. M Thanks for that mry716! When i decided to go for a lever action the original idea was to go for a classic Winchester seeming as they no longer produce them. The gun shop only had them in .30-30 and i was after a larger cal . When i was handed the Marlin though and told they do the .308 i really wanted one. I was then told that they can't get any in .308 until early next year. I'm not going to wait that long so went down the .30-30 route instead. The gun is only for fun and close range pig shooting and ammo isn't too expensive. I think everyone should own a lever action!
WeihrauchPower
O.K! I've just visited the Cabelas website which includes some reviews. I should of thought of checking there before starting this thread. Only thing that bothers me is that alot of the reviews seem like they are adverts placed by Hornady. No spelling mistakes and they repeat themselves, drumming in the main selling points over and over! It would be quite easy for them to do this! What do you guys think? http://cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pr...&hasJS=true
