conor
its usually the mag range that are the first ones and the size of the objective lense last (the big side) eg; 3.5-10x50 means its lowest mag is 3.5 and it goes up to 10 times and the objective lense is 50mm hope ths helps. as to what scope to buy it all depends on what you want it do do
Bigmike
Hi, I would always go for the best quality that you can afford and keep away from too many gimmicks, especially on a hunting scope. I run Bushnell Elites 3200 on both my Stealth and on my Rapid, both came from USA via USA Fleabay. They are both genuine, and I have registered the guarantee to check this. I got both to my door for £250 ish, you cannot buy one in this country for that. Watch out for fakes!!! there are loads about. Mike
ferretmanabu
I have a 3.5-10 variable magnification scope and on the air rifle, I never use more than 6 times magnification. At higher mags, all your movement are exaggerated much more when looking through the scope so it seems harder to shoot. In terms of the objective lens which is the final number, the larger ones are better for you if you find you will be shooting at dawn/dusk because they gather the light better. Bear in mind the quality of the optics as well. Some lower magnification and smaller lens scopes are likely to be better than cheaper scopes which have higher magnification and larger lens.
