Dr W
Bit of assistant needed please guys. Going to look at a 2nd hand 686 Silver Pigeon Sporter on Sunday, it's about 6 years old, had about 2500 carts through it and not really used for last 3 years. Apparently it's been well loved and kept clean and oiled, there are no marks on stock or barrels so I'm told. What I want to know is, is there anything in particular I should be looking for when checking it out. The guy has said that if I have it inspected and anything wrong with it turns up he'll give me a full refund and he sounds like a decent guy (from I can tell). Poacher
mechanisms should all be fine, guns like this are built well and should still be running fine, take some snap caps of you like and test the ejectors, have a look at the firing pins they may be a bit worn if so negotiate some money off. quick check inside the barrels for any pitting, I'd do a through check for any cracks in the stock, or where the wood fits the metal as this could ruin your weekend if it breaks when firing.
