It is pretty pricey now though. As for fishing in the area then there are lots of great streams up on the moor for wild brownie fishing but it is a real skill to stalk them and they are small. Fernworthy is not far from Moreton and a good lake, fished it a few times. There is also Kennick over Bovey way. Burrator is a really stunning place to fish as well, great scenery. Over Okehampton way there is Meldon and Roadford, not fished meldon in a long time but it used to be nice. Prices vary a little but it is not too bad. Dunkield
Almost parallel lives there Jerry, I have fished all(?) of the reserviors on Dartmoor and the East and West Dart as well. They all vary depending on water level or in other words how many 'upcountry folk' have been down there during the summer, using all their water We haven't visited any of them for a couple of years now, but last time we went Fernworthy was the best. Tottiford was the best until some numpty stocked it with pike by accident :( , for obvious reasons I don't think they stock it with trout any more. We struggled with Burrator and never returned, but they change the ranking and stocking policy almost every year so it hard to stay up to date. Kennick is very picturesque and you can take boats out or bank fish. They even have float tubing days there, never tried that but it looks fun. As Jerry said if you want a challenge, try the streams out on the moor, you can buy tickets from the big hotels (Two Bridges for instance) or some post offices, it used to be about £4 for the day and you can fish as much as you can walk for that - but you need to be very stealthy and good at nice short casts. Just to get a fish on your line, but more expensive, you could try Watercress Farm near Chuleigh, it's a couple of put and take lakes a bit further out for you though. Not the same experience as the lakes and it can get quite busy Some of the smaller lakes are free to fish (as long as you have an EA licence) have a look here for more info: http://www.swlakestrust.org.uk/pages/recre...shing_diary.asp In short, you live in Gods Country for fly fishing get out there and enjoy it Needless to say I am "pining for the Fjords" just typing this

Dunkield
If we had a green with envy smiley Jerry I would insert it here! Flash don't under estimate the lakes/reserviors they are not concrete bowls they have grassy banks and margains they are very peacfull places. I will dig out some old pictures and upload the later to show you how nice they can be.

Dunkield
A biggish but not very nice conditioned brownie out of there. I caught an identical fish about half an hour after this one but as it was fin perfect I released it in the water without even touching it. That was a great days fishing... flash
in the end we had a little bit of fishing after the casting lesson, and managed a rainbow of abhout 2lbs each, and we both lost 1 each as well. now just need to get a new rod. any recomendations, thinking of around 6 foot 9 cheers flash
Dunkield
Bit like a gun, Flash, if possible you should try before you buy. Exeter Angling used to be a very friendly helpful shop, with masses of tackle on display, might be worth a visit. I really rate Greys rods as affordable and decent performing - but everyone has their preferences.
