lazza
It was our first shoot day yesterday, so we were out on Friday night. We lamped a field of cattle and all seemed to be ok, until a bright pair of eyes came back at us around 150 yards away. Looking through the scope, I could see a fox lying down facing us, with it's head up looking at us. I lined him up and aimed for the bottom of the neck. I heard the thud and we went to pick him up. We didn't use any lights and put him on the back of the van and carried on lamping. The keeper had said that some of the birds had been spread that morning so we went for a look around that cover. Sure enough we picked up an eye and shot a vixen around the 100 yard mark. We had another look with the lamp and saw an eye 5-600 yards away, but by the time we'd got there he had disappeared and I guessed that he'd gone into a small wood which would be driven the next day. We went and picked up the vixen, called it a night and arranged to meet at first light the next morning. I was really pleased about picking the vixen up, as we have had 3 dogs off of that piece in the last couple of weeks and my theory is that she was drawing them in. The next morning I started to take a photo of the foxes and noticed the exit wound on the dog fox and it was quite impressive. The drive where we shot the vixen worked really well and sure enough the dog fox came trotting out of the wood that I thought he was in. Anyway , here they are: And the exit wound on the dog fox.
