Axe
Defra has today confirmed Avian Influenza in turkeys on a premises near Diss on the Norfolk/Suffolk border after preliminary tests were positive for the H5 strain. The premises also contain ducks and geese. All birds on the premises will be slaughtered. Full confirmation of results, including whether or not this is H5N1 and whether the strain is high or low pathogenic will follow. A 3km Protection Zone and a 10km Surveillance Zone are being established around the Infected Premises. Inside these zones bird movements will be restricted and all birds must be housed or otherwise isolated from contact with wild birds. We are also urgently considering with ornithological and other experts what wider measures may be needed. All poultry keepers on the GB Poultry Register will be notified, and the EU Commission has been informed. Helpline If you need advice on avian flu please call the Defra Helpline on 08459 33 55 77 between 6.00am - 10.00pm Monday to Friday.
Mungler
Oooh joy - bound to happen and we are now in the season for it. Not long now before this one goes off - maybe not this year or next year but it's deffo on the horizon. The 1918 Spanish flu pandemic which killed 100 million worldwide came from an Avian strand. Hey ho....
Suffolk shooter
I know the place well, I have to go past it to get to my brother-in-laws, now bearing in mind the F&M case, there is HLS research lab just down the road, wonder what the chances are................................................. Not good though for anybody who has a shoot or permission round that way, and there are alot that way, including a couple of game rearing farms in the area. It may even have an impact on FB111's shoot dependant on how far they actually take the restriction zone, it says 10km a the moment, but looking at the recent F&M zones it seems concentric circles aren't the in thing.
