David BASC
Dear All Please have a look at the following link. http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/diseases/n...d272-071121.pdf This general licence now allows the following. • The movement of dead gamebirds which have been shot outside the three zones (RZ, SZ & PZ) brought into the zones and processed. Can now leave the zones and go into the unrestricted area (UK – Scotland, Wales or NI) not currently under any form of control zones. • The ability to move dead game into the unrestricted areas now frees up the possibility of game being moved from within the zones to Europe, following the normal export procedures, provided it was shot outside of the three zones. • The ability to move dead gamebirds shot inside and cooked inside the three zones (Minimum cooking temp 70oc) back into the unrestricted area. • The ability to move products containing game meat shot outside the three zones, from within the zones to the unrestricted area. Movements which are still prohibited include 1. Birds shot within the three zones still currently cannot move out of the zones to the unrestricted zone. (we are still pushing hard for this and hope to get a licence in the near future) 2. Birds shot and processed in the three zones. I hope this helps clarify this latest General Licence, we will be working on a press release and updating the website with this information shortly For your information under the H5N1 (Poultry) Order 2006 “Wild game birds†are defined as “a bird which lives freely in the wild and is hunted for human consumption†therefore the current restriction on movement of dead game applies to all wild bird species (including pigeons). Pigeons are shot as pests- but if you may move them for human consumption. BASC is working very hard directly with DEFRA on a daily basis to formulate the details of a general licence to allow the movement of dead wild game birds from within the three zones into the unrestricted are. Our guidance is not to move shot pigeon outsize of the control zones. For up to date info go to the BASC home page www.basc.org.uk
