Beretta 687
Having had my shotgun certificate for just over 4 years now I have enjoyed mostly clay pigeon shooting. For years I have been interested in acquiring my firearms licence with the idea of target shooting and for deer. I’m in the process of joining Bookham rifle club but they are limited to .22 calibre. This club may have to be a stepping stone into a larger calibre club as local clubs do not accept anyone who doesn’t already have a FAC and will not accept new shooters. Obviously .22 cannot be used for deer so I was interested to know a sensible calibre to aim for to take medium/small sized deer. Also my father has 12 acres of land which I was hoping could be used to shoot on as it’s in a remote area and could possibly have deer activity. The issue being it’s 130 miles from my house so would the police entertain the idea of me being able to use this as a permission? I’m just trying to work out if the small calibre club is the best approach to working my way up the ladder or if joining the club would then allow me to acquire a licence then I could gain a larger calibre rifle and use it solely on the new permission. I hope this makes sense. Thanks
scarecrow243
Hi you can just apply for a .243 for deer and fox control your dads land maybe be ok for your F.A.C. it does not matter the distance as people travel all over for deer stalking you would be better trying to find a range where you can try out full bore rifles so you have some experience first
