JohnfromUK Posted Monday at 12:29 Report Share Posted Monday at 12:29 There has been for some time a method by which cars (most makes, not just Toyota/Lexus) are stolen by hi-jacking the vehicle electronics (CAN bus attack). Toyota/Lexus announced some 12 months or so ago that they were working on a 'solution'. I am told this is now available via the Toyota/Lexus service network. I quote below what has been posted on a Toyota owners forum and apparently comes from Toyota. Most 'pre 2022 vehicles may be affected, but it does depend on model, version and age'. My local dealer has checked and confirms the availability; "Toyota have released a final hardware solution to the CAN invader theft issue - its only just rolling out so your Toyota dealer might not be fully aware yet. Its call the " Toyota CAN BUS Gateway Blocker " & it prevents the CAN invader theft method from working as it isolates the headlamp ecu from the rest of the vehicle CAN network when the ignition is switched off. No additional tags or fobs required either, its an additional CAN ecu that requires wiring in to the vehicles original wiring harness by a Toyota main dealer. If you go on the Toyota UK website & look under Servicing & Owners, then Accessories, enter your VIN & it should appear if its applicable to your vehicle." Sadly, I don't believe this is being done 'for free'.
