Blackbart
D-day wednesday morning Op headquarters.....farmyard Got zillions of pigeons on the rape now the cold weather has hit(-7 this morning) I have got 6 shooters on 6 strategically placed fields,a man on a quad that is going to chase pigeon off if they land on an unmaned field,143 decoys between us,flappers, floaters, spinning wing doves,2 rotors,2 hyperflappers,22 sillosocks,a load of cartridges and a partridge in a pear tree. Never seen so many pigeons as there is at the moment, but the problem is the amount of rape i have on my land and the size of the flocks,(we have all been there 2 shots and they all vanish over the horizon)hence the mass assault tactic. We are going to try and keep them moving and hungry and hopefully break those flocks up a bit to make things a bit easier. At the moment they are in about 3-4 flocks of anything up to 700. Anybody else tried this tactic?Did it yield good results? Will report back wed for debriefing, over and out.

Sundowner
Cut some pigeon breast last nite and was amazed to see just how much rape they can get into their crops. And then to think that there is a few hundred hitting one field at a time! Now I just have to improve on the shooting front !!!!
jonno 357
The pigeons are hitting the OSR in massive numbers. I have never seen flocks as big in years. Its going to be a very good winter decoying. So far has been very fruitful Jonno
strudwick
Yes this winter should be good this is one of the best years we have hade for some time. Blackbart
The pigeon assault turned into more of a pigeon "telling off" On wednesday i went out early scouted around a bit found three main flocks of 100.....300.......600 the weather couldnt have been worse,no wind at all, bright and a lot warmer than the past week,to cap it all 2 of the guys that said they were coming didnt show,1 phoned and said he had to go xmas shopping, the other just didnt turn up(guess who wont be getting anymore invites)Anyway to cut a long story short the decoying was pretty poor, there wasnt enough of us to cover the rape and the birds just kept moving to ungarded fields, had the man on quad scarring them but they just sat in the trees until they moved on to another field. We ended up with about 20 pigeons and the same amount of black uns.Have come to the conclusion we need about 10 people to give them a real run for their money.Still,... siting in a hedge is still better than working.
