Hunter
I will be working on a Mossberg 500 over the next couple of months after FINALLY finding a uk supplier (midwayuk) for the stock, forend, rails etc. I have a qeustion or two. Firstly, I am hoping to fit the gun with a red dot sight on a tactical rail. Mossberg 500's have pre cut and threaded holes for this rail. When I asked in the gunshop today (took a drive to Andersons for a change) I was told this would not work as the shot from a shotgun would fire too low? compared to a single round. Is it really true that shot has a massive trajectory and would not work with a red dot. I have varius reasons for fitting a red dot sight. The main reason is, so it is suitable for my brother and good friend, who cannot look down the barrel due to confused eyes, etc. (been there, tried a few of the tricks). Has anyone done this. or seen it? everyone in gunshops I have spoken to have all been misleading or unhelpful, then again they dont like tactical shotguns in most of these posh shooting stores. My second qeustion is I have always wanted to experiment with Turkey chokes XX-f, (not for hunting I dont think) and would like to give one a go as I have found a reasonably priced one for this gun. What is the safest largest lead load I can use with one? again, not many people like to answer that one, but I need to know for my safety, as il probably go and just try it otherwise :( The stock going on is similar to the M4 rifle stock, adjustable stock length, and pistol grip. Could turn out to be a nice peice of kit for foxing if I can get all the loose ends to meet. Thanks
OneEye
I'm thinking of working up a demonstrator kit with a Mossberg and an IR sight for foxing/rabbiting. If you'd be interested it might make an interesting video project.
Hunter
Now thats interesting, never thought about IR! make sure it can take the recoil, or it could get messy I geuss we will have similar projects going on. Get yourself to MidwayUk.co.uk (i think) and type in the search what you need. they should have rails etc for what you need. What do you mean regarding video project? of hunting, or of the work? OneEye
What do you mean regarding video project? of hunting, or of the work? Of the finished item in use - I want to put it on my web site as I sell the NV unit I'm thinking of using, and it would be a new application, thinking of putting it on a Mossberg .410 as well, with the Hushpower barrel. There's a NV unit that functions the same as red dot, no magnification and a red reticle.
Hunter
Sounds good, id like to see how that works out. I still havent found anyone who has a red dot fitted to a shotgun, my search continues I dont want to spend to much as im saving for a rifle, and a long going Suzuki SJ 410 project thats needs finishing. Or selling.
Big_Sam
Dont forget that you still need to keep it 40" long with the sliding stock. Funny old law I found the other day.
