Big_Sam
Right oh! I've managed to at last find a weekend when I'm free and the skeet range is open, so on sat I'm off over there to shoot some steel! So, having been looking around the internet, I think I have got the general idea.... Semi-circle course, 8 stands, 25 birds, 25 shots. Two traps, one high, one low. Course of fire: #1 High single, Low single, Double High first #2 Same as #1 #3 High single, Low single #4 NOT SURE nominate? two singles #5 High Single, Low Single #6 High Single, Low single, double low first #7 Same as #6 #8 High single, low single Is that right? And yes we are shooting steel, being on the coast we have no option. Cheers, Sam
Markio
Almost, the layout you are talking for 8 stands is american. The eigth stand is directly inbetween the high and low house and not part of the semi circle that the other 7 stands are. English skeet just uses the 7 stands in the semi circle. On the 4th stand you do two singles and then a double (this is where are are meant to nominate the order you will shoot the doubles in). Markio
Have a look on this recent thread regarding skeet here. Post #5 by Pin shows the correct order to take each target. Note the order on stand 7 in Pins post compared to your order.
Big_Sam
Ok, I think I get that. What makes it confusing is that the skeet range was built by the americans when they had a base here, but we are shooting english skeet I suppose? So, #4 High single, low single, doubles nominate

Markio
Enjoy it, for me it'll never replace sporting but it is bloody good practice. I used to be very slow to take a shot in sporting, skeet helped me speed up as you can't fanny about on the doubles.

Now look at you giving advice to newbies You are right about the speed thing, but also the variety of angles it teaches you for the same birds. Oh and by the way Essex Masters is hard, expensive, but oh so enjoyable with the PW "All Regions" Mafia. I hope to shoot it again this year, so you will be in good company score wise, although judging by some of the threads recently, you seem to have taken a Digweed stance to clay shooting - "SMOKING THEM ALL".
