Gun Law

I dont normally read the SUN (I just look at the pictures) but in todays issue page 14 takes a cross section of typical criminal activities across the length and breadth of Britain.

Somewhat interesting reading when you consider the amount of Crimes involving Knifes and other weapons no doubt fueled to some extent by Drugs and Alcohol.

Now I was happily banging away at Pigeons this weekend with according to the antis a "potentially lethal weapon" in my hand, oblivious in my tranquility to all this real crime going on in the closer world around me.

Did I read in this article reports of any of the crimes involving a shotgun or a rimfire or come to that a high powered air rifle. No of course not.. as we all know us sensible and responsible gun users do not have any connection to these events at all.

I have just had a reply from the Commons to a letter I copied to my Local MP. in respect of the issue of Gun Control which was shall we say just fence sitting. I have written back and politely reminded him of the promises made by the Labour Party in their pre-election manifesto and said I expected his parties assurances to be honoured or I would consider him personally as a Charlatan. ( MPs hate being called that)

His argument was that the majority of illegally held guns were once probably in legal ownership and that The Hungerford and Dunblane masacres were carried out by legal firearm licence holders. ( ergo we are indirectly responsible for it) I point out that his reasoning is obtuse in the extreme and badly flawed and I could use other analogies to illustrate this.. for example my Grandfather smoked 20 Capstan full strength a day since he joined the ranks of the first war at 17 in 1914 He died of natural causes aged 85. He never had Cancer, so we can deduce from that that Smoking prevents Cancer... What nonsence..

Well that just casts a big, big cloud over the government licencing system and the local constabulary in my opinion and certainly not on any of us bona fide gun users.

I hope that some of the members of the Consultative committee might be SUN readers and they might even realise what is actually happening around the country to the decent, honest, people who pay their wages.

Lets get this Knife, Drug and Alcohol culture sorted out first, which is the real curse of our society.

FM.
