russ91
right there is a local wood that is leesed to a clay club who shoot every over sunday, any way the wood is coverd in grays but no 1 shoots them i went down to the woods when the club were shooting to try have a word with the gaffer but no 1 seemed to now were he was so i asked some one that was on the commity if it was posabul if i could shoot some of the grays useing a air rifle and he said sorry but no the only shooting that will happen in these woods is at clays so i just said ok thanks for your time so i went walking down the lain out of the woods and a guy called me over and said i over heard you asking about the grays and he said they wont let no 1 shoot because of the public foot path, witch i fort was a bit weard seem as A the clay stands are set 5 yds away from the foot path B shudent they have a duty of tenants of the wood to take care of pests and protect the trees that are being striped by the grays. do you guys think i should write a letter to the commity asking for permishon to shoot the vermin. ifso what do you recon this letter should say B)

David BASC
Russ, The footpath argument is weak as you correctly point out. You can shoot on or near a footpath provided you do not cause injury or interruption to anyone using it. I think a letter to the committee would be a good idea, perhaps asking for a meeting in the local pub so you can put your case to them personally, a letter on its own asking for permission could easily be binned (the easy option) where as face to face you can uncover, and then hopefully resolve, any objections they have. To be honest, in my opinion, this is the strategy I would adopt for gaining permission anywhere. David
