pegasus bridge
does anyone know if you can get a decent high power lamp that can be clamped onto the barrel of a shotgun (O/U or SA)? the type with the battery that you carry in a shoulder / belt bag, and the stock mounted switch... (if thats possible of course!) cheers gents!
alexm
I use a lightforce 170 scope mounted variable power: http://www.deben.com/lights_lamping/lightf...iable_power.php It comes with a scope mount so you just need the optional shotgun mount: http://www.deben.com/lights_lamping/lightf...cope_mounts.php The beauty about this is that because you have both scope and shotgun mounts it can be moved from rifle to shotgun with minimal effort. You will also need a battery pack of some sort... Edited March 8, 2008 by alexm
JohnGalway
What Alexm said basically. If you're only going to be shotgunning/.22lr rimfire then a Lance 140 will suffice. But, if you plan on shooting out past 150 yards at night with another firearm then the Striker 170 is by far the best option. When those lights are described as "scope mounted" they can also be mounted underbarrel on a shotgun as long as you purchase the extra shotgun mount. I've used the underbarrel mount, it works well even on moving targets like rabbits and foxes (although foxy moves a hell of a lot faster when spooked). Some who haven't used say that's not possible but just change the beam to flood instead of spot and it's a no brainer. According to the Lightforce booklet in front of me all of the "firearms mounted" lamps come with a 75W bulb as standard. The dimmer, as far as I am aware, will not save on battery power. But one way that will is to replace the 75W bulb with a 50W bulb. Still more than good enough for shotgun ranges and spotting I find the best way to carry the battery is in a backpack. There's no need to buy an expensive battery. Any sealed lead acid rechargeable (like from a motorbike shop) one will do, although I do like the Deben chargers.
