pigeon master
Hi guys, Just been out for a recce this morning to have a look at a rape field that was cut yesterday,"late I know" I was there about 20 minutes and watched pigeons feeding on most parts of the field in groups of 2/6, not loads but about twenty odd pigeons dropped in when I was there so I'm looking forward to getting out on it this afternoon with 12B.Beretta. I will be taking the camcorder so I will post the video through later tonight and show you all how we got on. The weather is a bit iffy but a good wind should keep them moving about a bit more. Wish me luck The PM

pigeon master
B) What a afternoon shooting, me and 12B.B went out at about 3 and turned up at the rape stubble field to see about 20/30 birds lift off, we started to rub our hands thinking we should get a decent bag today. Set the hide up and placed out the decoys, first bird come in within 2/3 minutes and we missed it,still confiedent that we would get loads of birds we stettled down with a tab and a coke and guess what!!! for 5 hours we had a chance at shooting another 3 birds. The whole valley was empty of pigeons, I scanned the area looking for pigeon movement and there was non. These birds seem to have settled down to nest as most pigeons dont really get into the breeding cycle untill about now, I think the comments that DAVE made on another post are very true and with the weather being a bit ruff they just seem to feed in short spells and there off to roost most of the day. Come on nature give us some good shooting weather and lets hope the bags improve. The PM Sorry but no video thsi time.
ernyha
Not long back from an afternoon on a wheat stubble. When i spotted it there were crows and pigeons all over it. Best of all there were still plenty of the big round bales dotted about so i got the desert camo net out and made a hide out in the field. Put some crow deeks. on one side and pigeon deeks with a flapper and a floater in front of me. Loaded the gun at 3pm and unloaded at 6-30 and in that time picked up 32 pigeons and 21 crows and rooks. A great afternoon, really enjoyed it. Will put a couple of pics. up later when i have eaten.
pigeon master
Sounds like a great day Ernyha, I wish mine was as good. I have not had much success with shooting crows, how many did you put out and did the crows come down to land? We took a few crow decoys with us the other day, a few were interested but didnt come close enough to shoot. I was thinking about maybe putting a few round a dead pigeon and see if that worked, what do you think? What tactics do all the lads use for crow decoying, any comments very welcome. ernyha
PM, I didn't set out with the intention of shooting crows but when i saw them mingled in with the pigeons i just put my 6 crow deeks out at the side of my pigeon pattern with a couple of them on the bales. The crows mostly swooped down low over the deeks with only a couple actually landing but well within shooting range. When i had shot a few i re-positioned the pattern and in the end pigeons and crows were mixed together. The rooks came in in groups and at times returned instantly after i had shot at them. The best was that when the pigeons went quiet the crows came in and when the pigeons returned the crows came in as well making it a choice of what to shoot at. As most shooters will testify, when this happens you often miss everything when spoilt for choice. As regards a stiff neck, i gave up worrying about what was behind me and concentrated on the front and sides. Am just hoping for some more chances to shoot around bales this season, great sport.
