Ferretboy111
Well, i bought a 50 egg automatic incubator a few months ago, and have been trying it out with chicken eggs from the farm before i set anything i have to pay money for. Works really well, and is relatively simple. The first batch of eggs i did, were experimental and werent as fertile as i hoped, with only 1 hatching, his/her name is twinkle and is a week old. Ive managed to get 50 partridge eggs for it for free of a gamekeeper mate, and may also do some pheasants. Currently i have 13 fertile chicken eggs (Candled) in which are due easter monday. Tarka
twinkle looks as if he needs a pal! nice batchelor pad though we got 2 incubators at work, can hold 4000 eggs each! not much fun to clean
Ferretboy111
Im very impressed with the incubator, so simple and cheap, and without the automatic turner can fit 80 eggs in it. I will be rearing the birds i get out of it, the same way as ill be rearing the 500 pheasant chicks, using infra red electric 250w heat lamps. Seemed to work well last year, so am hoping for the same success, cant afford anything too fancy and luckily a friend of mine had aload that i could use which he used to use to rear pigs. I will be putting the other chicks with him i suspect when they hatch on easter, if he/she picks on them then i wont be though. Am hoping they arent as vicious as pheasants. Teal
When stocking densities increase you will want to get rid of those corners, I've always used circular setups because the chicks can pile up in the corners.
Ferretboy111
Yeah i know, i reared pheasants last year from chicks. The hutch is for around 20 chicks, my rearing shed/pens are for the larger stuff, with a circular surround of hardboard so no pile up's can occur. (Thanks anyway) Edited March 15, 2008 by Ferretboy111
