jonno 357
Not exactly talk from the field but from the banking at work. Over the last few weeks at work we have had a lot of woodpigeons feeding on a banking that is all covered in forest bark. Every morning at 7 o'clock about 40 or 50 pigeons desend on a small banking covered in that forest bark chippings. Its like clock work, everyday they feed for 1/2 hour then off they go ? Does anyone know why they choose to feed on this ? I've never seen this happen before. My Company only put it down last year to stop the weeds going back, so can't see very little there for them to feed on Jonno
Will Beasley
I've seen my racing pigeon eating wood off the beams in the barn here. I dunno why it does it but it cant be very pleasant sh!tting splinters.

Fisherman Mike
Have seen this before also and I shot a couple of birds which had pine nuts in the crops but also a lot of bark bits which were quite sappy. I can only imagine that the pine nuts had some how got into the chipped bark as some times they shred the whole tree. As for the bark it could possibly be a digestion aid or a natural purge as pine has natural antiseptic qualities. FM.
