countryman
Hi Does any one have one of these or know about them? What i would like to know is: 1. How much recoil do you get from the gas ram compared to a pre charged rifle? 2. How long does the gas ram last before it needs changing? 3. Can you keep it loaded for long periods, say if you were waiting for rabbits to come out? 4. I like the look of the thumbhole stock but in pictures they all look very light coloured stocks, almost like natural wood. Is this how they are or is it just the way the photos are? airssassin
I don't have a Theoben rifle but do have a Theoben gas ram in my BSA lightening XL (0.177). I considered the evolution but decided against it for the cheaper and lighter BSA. Have a look on www.reviewcentre.com - lots of evolution reviews and also many glowing ones for the Lightening XL with gas ram. I can answer some of your questions though... 1. How much recoil do you get from the gas ram compared to a pre charged rifle? A gas ram has less recoil than a spring and makes a thud rather than a twang. The lock time is also quicker so they are more accurate than an un tuned springer. They do still require shooting technique unlike a PCP which requires far less. My BSA is hold sensitive but I can get good accuracy and as an example I shot a pigeon last week at 35 yds (neck shot - clean kill). Since I have had it I have sorted out many squirrels and woodies and not one has got away (about 30 in all). 2. How long does the gas ram last before it needs changing? A long time! Thousands of shots with no maintainance so I have been told. Mine has done about 2,000 and is still like new. The Theoben rifles are fitted with the latest generation HE rams which can be pumped up and adjusted if required / permitted. Theoben sell the pump. 3. Can you keep it loaded for long periods, say if you were waiting for rabbits to come out? Yes, unlike with a spring rifle you can keep the rifle cocked with no adverse affect on the gas ram. Obviously, it is best not to keep it cocked longer than necessary due to safety. 4. I like the look of the thumbhole stock but in pictures they all look very light coloured stocks, almost like natural wood. Is this how they are or is it just the way the photos are? Ermm... can't really answer this one but there are a few comments about the stock finish on reviewcentre and they're not all positive! I hope this has helped you a bit. countryman
Hi arissassin Thanks for taking the time to explain, its been very helpful to me. I will have a look on the review centres. I just like the idea of taking the gun out without having to pump air into it first. Cheers Chris
