Suffolk shooter
The farmer phoned me and has said his Hemp field is taking abit of a battering from the pigeons, could I go over. Not a problem, but I've never shot over hemp before. Any different to OSR,laid Barley, wheat etc.? Anybody done it before and how did you find they came in? Is there a problem with losing shot birds in the stuff (I've not seen the height of the crop, not seen it grown full stop actually round here before). Await responses. Cranfield
I have only ever seen one field of hemp in the UK (lots in eastern Europe and Turkey) and that was a "test" field near Sevenoaks, about 25 years ago. I shot over it when it was sown and when the plants sprouted, but it quickly got to about 18" high and the birds left it alone. The crop was not successful and was ploughed in before it would have full ripened. It could be interesting if they start to grow it here seriously.
