peck
Hello Rob, thanks for the welcome. i shoot .22lr and .17 hmr, used to do a bit of ferreting but that has now slipped by the way side, i may start again when i have more time. As i said i shoot both .22lr and .17 hmr, i still shoot .22lr in competition but i havent taken the .22lr Anschutz sporter out since i bought a CZ 452 Varmint. I have shot about 500 rounds with the CZ so far and it still amazes me how accurate and hard hitting it is. i have got it sighted in at about 125 yards and at that distance you cannot miss,(rifle rested obviously) the longest paced kill i have had on a rabbit is 242 paces, not short strides but good length strides, i would say in yards about 250 or very slightly less, i have taken rabbits at longer distances but i have not paced them. These shots were taken in the daylight, when i go out lamping again it will be with the .22 as most of the shots will be well under 80 yards and i will not need the extra distance the .17 gives you. To any one thinking of getting a .17 the only advice i would give them is, if most of your shooting is at more than say 80 yards go for it, if most of your shots are less than 80 yards stay with the .22lr, the cost of a shot with the .22 is about 3 pence, the cost of a shot with the .17 is about 15 pence now that the price of ammo has come down, it used to be 30 pence!!!. Must go now so will continue again at another time.
