Hunter2
Hi I have been granted permission to shoot on and over farm land and the owner has agreed and is prepered to give me a letter for my fac. up and until now its only been verbal permission using precharge air rifles for myself and my son. Should it include the following. 1.to include all the land as it is split up and covers a wide area, main farm and then other fileds miles away? 2.to include what rifles and calibre? and my third question is 3.outside of the basc and its third party insurance (to which i have) any other insurance protection for the land owner and myself. Just want to make sure that everything is covered. I dont expect any problems but one never knows.
Tam
Forget BASC for insurance & join S.A.C.S - far better cover & assistance in legal matters (legal cover too :good)
David BASC
I will try to answer the points you make. Firstly, I would make sure the written permission covers all land you can shoot cover, so all of this can be entered onto your FAC for example. No harm in having loads of land! Similarly, get all the calibers covered – why not! Finally, I am not going to knock SACS, Tam and others are great supporters of these guys – fair play to you! However, I can assure you that the BASC policy is fine for all your recreational shooting deamnds and needs and includes a clause called ‘Indemnity to Principal’, what this means in real terms is that you landlord(s) are indemnified under your insurance. So, for example, if you shot someone, and the injured party tries to sue the landlord for allowing the ‘dangerous’ activity to take place on his land, the BASC policy will protect him (the landlord) If you don’t have one, I am happy to send you a full copy of the BASC liability policy and Key Facts sheet that summarizesthe BASC insurance and the key exclusions to the policy. If you want to take Tam’s advice and go for the cheaper option of SACS, than I suggest you ask them for a copy of their policy and Key Facts document so you can compare what you are getting for your money as far as insurance is concerned.( by law they have to give you this – if they refuse you may ask yourself why…) But remember, your BASC is much more than insurance! What ever you decide, ( I hope you choose to stay with BASC!) enjoy you shooting and good luck! David
