qowenp
Hi Yesterday I spray painted the plastic handle from my Weihrauch HW70 air pistol black, it originally had a brown finish. The paint went on fine, and I applied 2 coats, waiting 45 minutes between each like it said on the tin. However it has been 24 Hours and the surface is still sticky to the touch, does anyone know why this is? I was contemplating running some very fine glass paper over the surface very lightly, but I don't know. I am supposed to be going target shooting in about 6-7 hours and I need it to be dry by then. Any advice appreciated
Axe
It could be a reaction from the paint with the plastic or something that was on the surface of the grip. Did you clean it thoroughly with a spirit based cleaner before painting? You could try running a hair dryer over it on a the lower heat and fan settings. Otherwise, remove the paint with a suitable paint remover, while its still tacky.
Jagerman
What paint is it?
qowenp
What paint is it? It's called Plasticote Fast-Dry enamel. And Axe, thanks for the advice, removing the paint will have to be a last resort as it is quite a big job
Jagerman
Plastikote is ok but I dont think it is strong enough for that application. Duracoat is the new thing thats out here, theres a lot of guys raving about it.
qowenp
Okay, just stripped all the paint off, isn't sticky anymore Any suggestions for a better paint to use, or techniques for the current paint I have? The paint I used was Plasti-Kote Fast Dry Enamel (BLACK) Thanks
CharlieT
I have used KRYLON camouflage paint and found it easy to apply and the finish is first rate.
DaveK
I have used KRYLON camouflage paint and found it easy to apply and the finish is first rate. From where please?
Jagerman
I have used KRYLON camouflage paint and found it easy to apply and the finish is first rate. Only problem with Krylon is it isnt hard wearing and rubs off over time, not only that im sure Krylon is no longer made.
CharlieT
from here..............http://www.fire-support.co.uk/store/comersus_listCategoriesAndProducts.asp?idCategory=224 I bought my last can 8 weeks ago so it was in stock then. OK, may not be as hard wearing as Duracoat but for a £5 I don't mind and I can respray as often as I need. Finished off with a couple of coats of mat varnish it gives a fairly durable finish, certainly better than the stock was before !!!
straightshooter1
did you use a undercoat ? if not thats whats wrong you need a special undercoat for plastic otherwise some paints react with the platsic and as Axe said make sure before you do anything you clean your surface properly preperation is everything! also make sure everything is bone dry before you start Edited May 31, 2008 by straightshooter1
