Weaverfish
For the last month i have been surfin' the web in search of a decent air rifle. ive gone from Gamo shadow to HW35 and have really tried to think of what i want. many forums have helped me alot to search out the best rifles! this is my final results BSA Meteor. £140 this is the cheapest rifle in my list, research shows that this the small and light -great!- but dosnt show much power and accuracy. I might be going rabbit shooting in a few years and i really dont want to be buying an air rifle after this. Ive heard that you could change the spring to give it more power but this is costly and dosnt help the accuracy. also it dosnt look too great, kinda like the B2 in shape but i like the look of the wood colour. apparently will take a rabbit up to 25 yards. Cometa Fenix 400. £160 spanish manufactuer's Cometa Fenix seems to be more powerful than Meteor, but the same accuracy could be a problem. However I think this gun looks ace! better than the meteor and supersport. I also love the sights, those glow thingies help alot as im not going to be adding a scope to my chosen gun for a while. big problem is that this is a big adult-sized rifle, although not heavy .I wont get used to the recoil quickly either. apparently will take a rabbit up to 25 yards. BSA Supersport. £185 this airgun seems to have everything! its accurate and looks sweet! its not too big like the Fenix and holds suprising power outmatching the Meteor. however this gun has some major drawbacks. its really heavy, the cocking requires major effort. The safety is set next to the scope, unlike the Meteor which is in front of the trigger. I dont know if the safety is automatic or not. i hope it isnt. ill never put the safety on. theres no need to unless i fit a gas ram, which is apparently highly reccomended but will cost another £45. putting it more expensive as BSA Lightning. apparently will kill rabbits up to 40 yards. whichever rifle i buy will be fitted with an AGS Sapphire 3-9x40 and a single scope mount. I visted the shop earlier today and held the Meteor and the Fenix, the info on the supersports was on a review (not on this site) but i saw it in the shop. i get my chosen gun on the 20th, 6 days left to decide which one? i dunno, do you? relivingmyyouth
Definitely not the Meteor. It is not pwerfeul enough in standard form. They have however recently released the Meteor MK7 which is 'Full Power'. I don't know much about the Supersport as I've never fired one. I have a Cometa 400 Fenix and I absolutely love it. Yes it is full size but not heavy. Beleive me, it is deadly accurate. And will take any bunny out to 45-50 yds. The Fenix would get my vote. vole
Mk 7 Meteor is 12ft lb. Made in Spain though and the open sights are suspiciously like the Spanish made Webley Sport ie the red and green and I treated myself to one. The old Meteors put out only 8ft lb so unless you go for one of those then the power will be much of a muchness so it depends what you fancy really. Then again I used to kill plenty woodpigeon with the old Meteor. I think accuracy is everything with them. I had the Lightning but missed the open sights as most shooting I do is close in. Would have got the Supersport but more expensive for same ft lb though they do seem nice build. Edited July 12, 2008 by vole21
Jim145
Supersport everytime for me, a proven classic which will last a lifetime if you look after it. The safety is manually operated and I think being away from the trigger is a far safer design than next to it. They can be a bit "jumpy" in .177, but thats true of any lightweight springer. bullet boy
It would have to be the Supersport that got my vote.
