Mounts for Steyr SSG PII

My brother wanted a rifle for more all round use (fox and deer) so has traded the .270 in against a .243. The rifle is a Steyr SSG PII which is very nice indeed. Cant wait to shoot it

Was wondering does anyone know what mounts are suitable for this rifle. The rail looks like it takes some proprietary jobbies which are probably quite expensive, just wondering what kind of set folks would recommend to fit to it.

Any help greatly appreciated

I have an SSG Match (Walnut Stock).

When I bought it I decided to bite the bullet and get the Steyr quick detachable mounts for my scope.

I paid £134 for them in April 2005! They look nice as they match the Parkerised finish on the barrel. They were absolute pigs to fit onto the rifles dovetails before I mounted the scope in them. I have had absolutely no problems with the Steyr rings but I would say that they are vastly overpriced for what they are. I would also say that on my rifle, the chances of using the QD facility is slightly less than nil. I would never get them on/off without damaging the scope.

If you can, I would definitely try to get some other brand of decent mounts to fit and save yourself some money.

Cheers,

Chris.

Thanks Chris I really appreciate that.

In the same boat, don't need the quick detach facility at all so other brands which are just as stable would do me/him fine. Now its trying to discover what other brands would do the job
