henry d
Went out last week to a field that hasn`t had a lot of activity until recently, it`s a fodder field of neeps and rape for sheep and as the peas are too high to allow pigeon to land and as yet the laid cereal isn`t "milky" enough this field is now getting full attention of the pigeon. Due to shifts we, me and lucky Jim, were late, 10 am !!!!, and had to get away at 2 pm so we weren`t to worried about whether there would be much activity, however Jim shot the first bird for the rotary as I was getting the deeks out of the bag ! Once the deeks were out I shot the 2nd bird for the rotary and we were all set, however I decided to race home and get one of the dogs as the birds were easy to lose in the crop as it was 6-10" high and quite thick in places. It was a good day for decoying, with a nice breeze behind us and not too much sun. We were behind a dry stane dyke and the woodpigeon looked like grouse coming up the field to us low and side slipping into the deeks. Final count 69 woodpigeon and 3 hoodie crows for 150 shots and the game dealer is paying 30p ATM
