SPARROWHAWK HAD MY DECOY AWAY.

i had a bit of luck yesterday whilst looking for some permission, the farmer said i could go out shooting, but its not a perminent permission i have to ask him on a day by day basis. i quickly got my gear together, and he sent me to a field that had been cut about 3 weeks ago.

after setting up my hide, i set out 10 sillosock decoys in the ''V'' pattern and then tucked myself away in the hide and waited. i didn't even see a pigeon in the first hour then WHOOSH a massive sparrowhawk came straight over my head and swooped past the decoys and it was gone in a flash .

i just sat there with a big grin on my face thinking ''you don't see that every day, but the decoys must look good!'' then it came fron my right hand side, flying into the wind and smashed into the front sillosock!!!!! i was amazed and could only sit and watch as he flew off with the decoy in his talons. it got about 300 meters away then dropped it but managed to catch it again before it hit the ground! then started flying back towards me. luckily he dropped it about 100 meters away from the hide, so i got up and started waving my arms about to scare him away.

i managed to get the decoy back, all be it with a few little holes in the body, and when i finally found the metal rod it was sitting on, it was bent nearly 90 degrees, so he must have hit it pretty hard.

the total pigeon count was prety poor, 7 ferals and 2 wood pigeon. but it was well worth heading out there just to see that hawk!
