max chamber pressure

Recommended Posts

who here loads to the max chamber pressure recommended ? as i have been reloading a .223 for a fair while now with vit n133 using there recommended loads. Now i have just purchased the quick load program and that says the same load is to high ? I've had no pressure signs whatsoever and have been using that load for a long while now as its very accurate for my rifle. So what should be done about it ? I,ve checked factory load specs given as they come out to high as well so is the program well below what it should be ?

If everything is coming out at high pressure on QL, even stuff you know to be safe, then I am going to suspect that one of your input dimensions is off. I've seen it in other forums where a small factor in case dimension, brass thickness, chamber spec, etc will cause readings to go high. That would be my bet if everything is too high.

Also, there was a thread in another forum about QL3.2 vs 3.4 (maybe UKvarminting) and some powder burn data being slightly different. Maybe be something to browse for.

Thanks,

Rick

my original loading that i worked up to was 25.8 grains n133 with a combined technologies 50 ballistic silvertip. Vit say say that the max loading is 26.2 . Now i felt comfortable being under the max threshold and have shot around 350 rounds with no probs whatsoever with that load. I have now thrown all the loads i,ve made up and reloaded them to 24.6 but the accuracy down a bit from what it was. Now looking at the posts i would say that my original loading was fine. I allso chroned all the loads inc original and they were fine for that weight head

Bear in mind that whatever people tell you, the BST is moly coated so if you go back to naked bullets, you will get some pressure and velocity increase comparing like for like.

The coating it called Lubalox and is advertised as such. How it differs i have no idea but usume it doesnt have the same pitfalls as molly

"usume"?

Well, i have shot a lot of moly and quite a few BST and i'll tell you this, whatever Nosler/Winchester tell you, it looks like molly, it tastes like moly, it smells like moly and it shoots like moly. I emailed Nosler about this directly and was told "treat it like moly" when I asked them a direct question. I think they like to call it "lubalox" to avoid the negative press "moly" gets given.

well thats them new heads going under the hammer then as i dont fancy putting them through my new .308
