Cosd
First outing with the new toy yesterday,(bought secondhand) and whilst giving it a clean in the evening I noticed the guard around the trigger was quite loose! Does anyone know if this simply has a couple of nuts on the inside of the mechanism that need tightening? I didn't have the tools to take the mechanism off the stock yesterday and there are no visible screws. Baldrick
I imagine a Medallist's trigger guard is the same as those on most O/Us. Remove the butt-plate/pad, and use a socket set to remove the stock bolt. Unscrew the pins securing the tapering portion of the trigger guard around the grip/hand of the stock (take care not to damage the metal or woodwork). You should be able to remove the entire stock now, with the trigger guard secured only at the base of the action, in front of the trigger. On most O/Us, the trigger guard now unscrews from that point in front of the trigger. If not, it will be bolted into the base of the action. Either way you need to remove the stock, ascertain how the trigger guard is attached and then make the necessary adjustments. If you don't have the tools necessary to remove the stock, buy them. You will probably need them for future maintenance work, or drying out a wet gun.

I have a good selection of tools but they are in storage as I am having work done at the house and we are not living there. I will go to a friends on Saturday and take the stock off to have a look. I was just hoping someone wouldn't write back saying it is welded on or something like that. Thanks again
Cosd
I removed the stock, but couldn't see how the trigger guard is attached. It looks as though the springs need to be removed for me to get to the guard attachment. I don't usually worry about taking things apart and reassembling them, but I don't know enough about gun mechanics. Should this go to the gunsmith?
